The fascination with finding forms in driftwood and combining them with gass lead tot he first mixed-media object created by Birgit Dopsch. Nowadays, she also introduced objects combining glass with stone as well as creations for outdoors utilizing steel. These allow her work to withstand the outside weather.

By using the „pate verre“ technique, glass can be cast into three dimensional forms, which offer an entirely new spectrum of perspectives and transparency. Like casting bronze, this process requires a model to create the desired cast, which will be destroyed in the process. Since the model and form can only be used once, one speaks of a „lost“ form – the final object is unique.
